Help Needed - Infuser
I've been playing an infuser in HA the past 2 days, and I found it hard to channel tank because of the instinct to avoid "overextending" like in other forms of PvP. My other problem was - infusing, we faced an Rspike team and I didn't do too badly, caught the first few spikes, but then when the other team started to get the hang of it and making cleaner spikes, I had some trouble .
So, how can I better learn to channel tank and to Infuse better? just practice?
Tips would be appreciated.

practice, and maybe try to watch the caller usualy /N
you could also ask a few guildmates to do a scrimage and try to keep someone alive when they spike.

i had the same problem channel tanking when i started monking in ha also, cause your instincts always tell you not to at first.
what helped me, equipping a sword/axe and c-spacing. that got me used to being around a bunch of enemies and after that it came naturally.
also with any spike, make sure you're always watching one spiker. for rspike, the caller because he will usually be on every single spike. for a mixed spike, whoever has a two second cast (usually fire ele with rodgort's). that way you know about when the spike will hit, this helps a ton. another tip for rspike is try watching the general direction a ranger points toward when using a spike skill, that should give you about a second to figure out who the target will most likely be.

i do not know how you heal. as in pressing party bar members, or actually pressing your teammates character in the field. but to generally get better as a monk (especially against projectile spikes or warrior spikes) try to click teammates on the field rather than the party bar. this is because you should already be looking at who the rangers turn and face towards and unless you have godly reflexes you can infuse faster.
the main thing is practice tho and i wish you good luck

Monks should be able to keep the team up without channeling only on 3 way maps you need your channelng, so putting yourself out of harms way can be a good thing.
Against a good r-spike with a clean spke their is not much a healer can do. Protting is the key here and the healer just heals up the rest or tries to infuse the spikes the prot misses.But if they are clean no way you can infuse them (unless you are really ood and whatch the field and infuse midspike but not many people can do that.
So agaist rspike, yell at your people to spread out so you can more easy see the way the bows are spinning and yell at your prot to stop red barring and actually pre prot the right targets.

Practice, practice, practice! No one can show you how to infuse good. The only way to learn is through playing the role and experiencing it for yourself. Then compiling those experiences together, and seeing where you did wrong, or performed well, and build on those along the way.
As far as R-spike goes, it's always been tricky for me. I feel that just paying attention, and watching the team movement and then looking to yours to see who could be more vulnerable to a spike based on their positioning helps. Best thing I could offer really, since what Crom said-

It's really just based on how well your prot monk is. Sure you will get lucky, and if you DO pay enough attention (and on rare occasions spot the caller and follow his movement) you will score some nice infuses!
As far as Channel tanking, it's just something I learned about very early in my monking, but could only build upon after learning proper positioning etc. What you basically want to do is always be within range of your prot monk and just pay attention to key spikers near you such as warriors.

Definitely look at an enemy to get an idea of when a spike is coming in. Then either reflex it or watch the field or someone on vent may be yelling watch me me me (because they realize they are in trouble).
As far as channel tanking goes, try to hug their midliners (don't channel tank warriors on 1v1 matches!). Against good teams on 1v1 matches you will likely not find any channel balls. Often its better to forget channeling to not compromise your position (i.e. hiding behind walls against rspike, kiting warriors, staying out of range of a caster spike etc) or if you're constantly being rended/ripped/disenchanted as soon as you put up channeling, then better to just keep it off and save energy. Channel tanking can often cause more problems than good.
Usually infuse has some sort of other energy spell like auspicious or pdrain or mantra of flame. (Unless you're one of the die hards that uses draw because your prot uses RC, then your team better be guaranteed getting to halls, otherwise you're compromising yourself.) You can actually win most matches without ever using channeling. Try to use auspicious out of range of mesmers/necros or anyone that can strip it or interrupt your heal party. If you like pdrain just look towards a midliner - though sometimes this can be very challenging, but there's no better feeling than rupting a flesh during kill matches or a ward during relics as a monk. Pdrain in theory is the best, but by far the most challenging, and if you spend too much time looking to interrupt a spell, people are probably dieing. Mantra of flame is a decent skill, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It's very easy to use, can mitigate lots of damage, give energy and eats diversions. See which skill works best for you.
Of course on 3 way maps, find the sweet channel ball and just pump out mad heals, because you probably will need it.

It's best to channel tank around opposing monks and midliners when possible. I'm sure you've noticed HA doesn't have "lines" in the traditional sense, players tend to mix around with monks channel tanking and midliners camping perimeter areas to avoid stray damage. Against non-spike teams your only job is basically red bar, not having skills diverted and sneaking in an auspicious + HP if you have that skill.
Rspike and other spikes, been discussed a zillion times but nobody can infuse every spike in a long match since HA spikes can be extremely clean and do well over 1000 points of damage plus a deep wound. If your team doesn't start reducing their spike damage after a few minutes you'll be resigning anyway after someone is 60'd. For example against a generic forked arrow r-spike, cry of frustration, disabling brutal weapon, hexes on the rangers, etc. and keeping fav winds down will help immensely slowing down the spike and dropping it under instagib damage. If they are allowed to clean spike with all their buffs it's a roll of the dice every time no matter how good you are.

I'm also having some troubles with spells like Diversion, I'm trying not to spam my spells and pay attention to the skills I'm effected by, but sometimes it just doesn't work.
Any other way to coutner it other then hoping the prot knows how to preveil?

This feels really bad to say... but watch their mesmer even though the warriors do the damage, you have to rely on the prot to watch those warriors. Watching their mesmer means you know when a diversion is coming, and as an infuser it is most likely on you. Btw... hit pdrain. It helps. But seriously the diversions (if you have a ranger) should not be getting out there. And if you dont... well just cry in the corner and take veil on a HB bar... you will be fine

With heroes gone I suspect we'll be seeing more dom mesmers. If diversion and shame are a major problem, play a WoH bar with hexbreaker and run an RC prot to compensate a little with healing power. Hexbreaker is considered noob defense but that's not entirely true, good teams will help you a lot with shutting down diversion in the first place, calling it out if it does get cast and positioning good so you can see the field (mesmers make a distinctive twirling animation when casting long spells). Bad teams let every diversion go off, don't call it and ball so you can't see anything. Therefore playing with hexbreaker isn't a terrible idea especially with WoH since having that diverted is gg. As a last resort WoH is easier to cancel than HB healing skills if you react in time to a diversion.
My general experience has been WoH is easier to play with adequate healing while HB offers superior healing but really sucks when your team lets you bite every diversion and rend.

Do you mean look at which direction there character points when using a spike skill? I've been trying to watch the field but on the dark maps (main maps I've been playing on - UW , Fetid ) it's pretty hard to see brown projectiles on grey - black font. How to better do it?
